5th Annual Seacoast Half Marathon in |
Volunteers are the backbone of the Seacoast Half Marathon and, in part, enable us to donate all of our entry fees to each year's race beneficiary. We welcome and appreciate every volunteer who donates their time and energy to help make our race a success - we know that we would not be able to host this race each year if not for our volunteers! |
. |
These are the areas in which we could use your help on race day, November 14, 2010: |
* Parking & traffic control : Help direct incoming cars to allocated parking areas; keep drivers from "No-Parking" areas; help direct traffic after the race. |
* Check-in & packet pick-up : Double-check names of entrants and distribute bib numbers and timing chips; assist with t-shirt distribution |
* Set-up : Hang signs inside Portsmouth High School ; move tables/chairs; set-up finish line corral; hang banners in PHS cafeteria. |
* Course marshals : Help monitor traffic (reminding cars to slow down, controlling traffic at intersections, etc.); make sure racers know which way to go at intersections; help keep racers to the side of road. Note : local police will control vehicle traffic at major intersections. |
* Finish line : Hand out water to finishers; help remove and collect chips from finishers; hand out finisher's medals. |
* Clean-up : General clean-up after the race, including removing signs and banners, helping collect remaining trash, rearranging tables, etc. |

If you can volunteer some of your time, please click HERE to send an email to our Volunteer Coordinator. Give us your name, email address, and a contact phone number. Let us know your first, second and third choice of assignments. Also let us know when you can start, and how much time you can spend with us. If you are representing a group or organization, let us know the name of that group and how many people you will bring. We will start at Portsmouth High School at 6:30am on race day. The race starts at 8:00 for walkers and 8:30 for runners. We expect the fastest runners to reach the finish line by 9:40-9:45. The race, including the award ceremony should be over by about 12:00-12:30.
All volunteer, except course marshals, will check in at Portsmouth High School. Course marshals will be provided with a check-in location on the race course. The race will be run, rain or shine, so be prepared for whatever mother nature brings us.
We serve coffee and bagels for our volunteers on race day morning, and every volunteer will receive a shirt Seacoast Half Marathon staff t-shirt.
We will do our best to give you the job you request, based on the time you can start and how long you can stay. If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Importantly, if you have a volunteer assignment and cannot make it, please let the Volunteer Coordinator know as soon as possible. |
