| Past Beneficiaries |
The tag line for the Seacoast Half Marathon – “Caring For The Coast, One Step At A Time” – was developed to reflect the organizing committee's desire to use the race to support local non-profits. A beneficiary is chosen for the race each year, and all of the revenue from the race, after payment of race expenses, goes to that year's beneficiary. In addition, other local non-profit groups participate in our water stop competition, in which a different organization staffs each water stop along the race course.. The race entrants vote for the best water stop after each race. The winning organization receives $500, and all of the other water stop competitors each receive $250 to benefit their organizations. In the three years the race has been run, almost $150,000 has been donated by the race to the beneficiaries and the non-profits in the water stop competitions.

2006 – The Market Square Steeple Fund
The steeple of the North Church in Market Square, completed in 1855, dominates the Portsmouth skyline, and has served as an important landmark for the city. When the steeple fell into serious disrepair, the Market Square Steeple Fund was created to raise funds for reconstructing and refurbishing the steeple. The race committee was honored to use the first running of the Seacoast Half Marathon to support the restoration of this important local landmark and source of local pride.
The winner of the 2006 Water Stop competition was Peer Leadership, which is a student-run, community service group at Portsmouth High School.

2008 – Cross Roads House
Cross Roads House provides secure temporary shelter for people without homes, as well as a program to help people make a successful transition to permanent housing. The race committee overwhelmingly agreed that this well-run and highly-effective organization was one that we would be proud to support. The $55,000+ the race donated to Cross Roads House supports the capital improvement campaign to rebuild the shelter, and was used to help meet the requirements for a challenge grant offered to the organization. Assistance is based on recommendations from community validators, and is given without red tape or applications to complete. The race committee was impressed by the fact that 100% of Womenade's revenue goes to the people they serve. To learn more about this year's beneficiary, please click here
